About Catalina
Catalina Yachts is one of the largest builders of fiberglass production sailboats in the world, with more than 80,000 boats manufactured to date. Although Catalina produces boats as small as eight feet under the Capri nameplate, the company is best known for its production of mid-sized cruisers. The ocean-going Catalina 50 was the largest design, but has been discontinued and replaced by the 470.
Today, all Catalina sailboats are produced out of its Largo, FL, manufacturing facility, an 18-acre site where the entire manufacturing process takes place.
With few exceptions, Catalina has focused on long term models, generally making small changes over the years. The company encourages the development of active owners' associations to promote one-design racing, supports Catalina Rendezvous meetups and assists in other forms of owner engagement. Larger cruising class boats, 27-feet and longer, have fixed keels with lead ballast. A notable feature of most Catalina boats is their large cabin interiors and storage they provide.
