From 1946 until 1959, the MODOC served as a spy ship stationed in Adak, Alaska, monitoring communications and movements by the Russians. In 1959, the MODOC was commissioned into the United States Coast Guard and served in Coos Bay Oregon until she was decommissioned in 1981. Purchased privately in 1989 she underwent a complete restoration and conversion to a charter vessel.
