PBBI has the privilege of offering for sale the F/V Ocean Pearl, flagship of the FINEST AT SEA (http://www.finestatsea.com) fleet. F.A.S. Seafood Producers Ltd owner, Bob Fraumeni, has decided his customers will be well served from his mid-size fleet. The Ocean Pearl is the largest vessel of it’s type on the Canadian Pacific Coast and has a reputation fishing to match it’s size. For many years it has produced volumes of top quality black cod during the winter months and delivered top grade tuna while ranging all over the Pacific during the summer months.

The successful fishing history is the result of a great build, thoughtful layout, and pertinent adaptation over the years. The Ocean Pearl has a sea keeping reputation second to none. It’s ability to safely fish while others cannot has kept good crews available. With the engine room under the main deck, simple access through the deck for repair or replacement has prevented the costly downtime that hampers many vessels. Electrical current flow to the water, propeller noise, and noise pitch have all been refined to their best levels. Physical aspects like removable stern bulwarks, drum placements, massive lighting, and gumwood decks are all the product of thoughtful adaption. At one time, the vessel carried a full shelter deck and it would still be capable to do so.

Ocean Pearl features a very large bridge with excellent visibility. The 100 square foot Master’s cabin, complete with en suite head and shower, is on the aft port side. The command hauling station on the starboard side was thoughtfully designed to be unobtrusive from outboard and has outstanding visibility of operations as well as a very good line of sight forward. There is a two foot crawl space under the deck of the bridge through which service lines run and some transformers are installed. It also facilitates storage and simpler repairs and installations. Access to the foredeck and anchor winch is through a watertight door on the bridge. Aft of the bridge, at the base of the mast, are hydraulic controls for the twin booms that match the controls in the wing bridge.

On the main deck, there are the four crew’s cabins and one head up forward. Next aft is the galley which spans the breadth of the ship with preparation on the stbd. side and seating on the port side. On the port side aft of the galley is one more cabin with 3 berths currently being used for storage. Next aft on the port side is the wet room with access to main deck. The wet room features a fridge, coffee machines, washer and dryer, drying racks, and full head and shower. On the stbd. side aft of the galley is a freezer room. It only has access from the main deck. This freezer room allows freezing of some fish if fresh fish is in main fish holds or adds to total capacity per day. On the outer main deck are hatch covers to the four fish holds, with each having a man hole built in. There is also an escape hatch from engine room which is portside aft.

Below decks forward, accessed from main deck just forward of galley, is a pantry/storage for the galley with four stainless steel fridges/freezers and a large chest freezer. The area also serves as storage for spare parts and equipment. Two large hot water tanks are up against the aft bulkhead. Moving aft, there are fuel tanks and forward fish holds followed by the engine room. The engine room is accessed from the main deck just aft of the galley. It is quite spacious with a work bench area. From the engine room, a tunnel moves back between the aft fish holds to the steering gear and storage area. There is an escape hatch route through here.

A combination of it’s capabilities and it’s superb maintenance makes Ocean Pearl a force to be reckoned with in the fishing industry for a long time to come. Able to freeze 20 ton a day and hold it at quality temperatures, able to stay at sea on tuna for over 3 months if required, and able to deal with the forces of mother nature without compromising safety are key features. The various potentials in conversion make it a strong candidate for other fisheries. Excellent maintenance records have meticulously been kept and will be available to an accepted offer.
